Re:

#13865 USB 2.0 TO IDE CABLE FOR 2.5"/3.5"/5.25" DRIVE WITH POWER ADAPTER

I have a Dell Latitude laptop drive and just received your USB to IDE cable.

Two questions:

1) The drive pin attachment on the USB cable has 2 sides that can accept the drive pins. I assumed the correct side was the shorter one, which had a blank space where a pin is missing on my drive and leaves the 4 end pins free. Is that right?

2) I don't see anywhere on my drive to plug in the 4-hole power connector. Is the USB connection without the AC adapter sufficent for a laptop drive?

HI JBVC - yes that is correct. You will notice the 3.5-in drive side has a raised notch in the middle of the connector. The 2.5-in will not have this.

The 4-hole power connector is for 3.5-in and 5.25-in IDE devices. The notebook drive will get its power from the USB port via the 4-pins on the adapter itself. You will not need an external power source.
