Posted: Mar 28, 2004 07:33:09 I have a 60 GB Toshiba MK6021GAS USB 2.0 external drive that works flawlessly on my work computer running Win XP. I upgraded my home computer (Win98 SE) with a USB 2.0 card loaded the necesary drivers and tried to get the drive to work at home. The drive is recognized as working properly by the system but says that the drive is not formatted. I have 30 GB of data I can't erase with a reformat! I can't upgrade to XP at home because of many other hardware issues. Suggestions? |

Posted: Mar 29, 2004 22:06:35 You likely have NTFS on the XP system. And NTFS is not recognized on Windows 98. Convert your NTFS drive to FAT32. In any event, I would take a full backup before you did anything further with the drive. |

Posted: May 9, 2004 07:25:34 I have a similar problem. I have the same drive (Toshiba 40GB). It works on my laptop running Win 2000. It is not recognized at all on my home PC running XP (except the LED lights up). They formatted the drive where I bought it. How do I reformat it? Thanks. |

Posted: Mar 31, 2005 11:51:06 Hi, I have 4 computers - 3 work perfectly with win98SE and on is an xp with tons of adware, spyware, things in the temporary file directory, always everything full in the msconfig area. I have norton2003, vcoms suite5, adaware, and pcbooster. Using all of them and taking off 500 or more adware in the last week, the computer still takes foever to do anything when I click an icon - or it does nothing at all - I want to get totally rid of the xp and get the drive formatted to win98SE like the others. I don't know if a win98se format and fdisk will work or where to get the correct programs. I wonder where I will get a video driver that works with win98se if the xp ones won't install the video when using win98se, and any other problems that might come up. Thanks much for any help you can give me. John Hansen major@planetkc.com I'll check back here later. |
