i just want to make sure that this drive is a type II CF card...that would work in my digital camera

Yes, "CF Type II". But just because it is a CF+ Type II card does not guarantee it will work on your digital camera. The reason is that there are different models of the Microdrive (see the back of your Microdrive) that are designed to work on specific models. So, having a camera state is compatible with "Microdrive" does not guarantee it will work with all Microdrive.

If you need a Card Reader, I recommend the Dazzle Microdrive Reader by Zio Corporation. I bought mine at Circuit City.

will this work in the minolta a1?

it is not on the list.
For Minolta, it will work with:
Minolta DiMAGE5
Minolta DiMAGE7
Minolta RD-3000
