I'm working on a project of turning a PC case into 4 device FireWire Enclosure. I have purchased all the compnents and am ready to put this thing together. I would like to say one thing before I get into this. I've never built my own PC before and I'm unfamiliar with the workings of the PSU.

Now, for this project a mother board is useless and a waste of money, so I didn't buy one. What I need to do is get the PSU to powerup without the presence of a mobo. From my research I found that my ATX PSU uses pin-14 as the "turn on" switch. So I would need to connect Pin-14 to the front power switch. My question is this (keeping my unfamiliarity with PC cases and PSUs in mind): My case has a 1x2 pin connector for the power switch, but there is also a logic board in the front of the case which I believe the powerswitch is wired on to. Would I need to give power to the logic board first in order to get the PSU to turn on, or should the power switch be wired directly to the ATX cable? Also, can I use any ground wire in the ATX harness for this setupt?

This may be a bit confusing. Let me know if I need to clear anything up.

You might try a hardware enthusiast site like anandtech.com - they will have gearheads that could help you. Include pictures in your post, I think that will help.
