Posted: Apr 9, 2003 23:23:05 I'm not sure if this is the proper place to be asking this, but I am having a problem installing my new S3 Savage 2000 card in my computer. When I hook everything up (even after I install drivers) my screen has vertical...stripes I guess is the only way to describe it. Stripes of what I'd call interference/static. The stripes cover approximately 50% of the screen, in wide bands. I'd say there's about 10 bands of interference. Obviously this made driver installation difficult, but not impossible. Drivers didn't help. Bands appear as soon as the computer is powered up, covering all the startup screens. I'm running an AMD 1.2GHz Socket A Thunderbird in a K7SEM motherboard with onboard S3 graphics. Any help would be appreciated, thanks. |

Posted: Apr 9, 2003 23:32:50 #1 Please try these said cards in a different motherboard. There is a probability that there is an incompatibility issue. Please make sure that this different motherboard has a different chipset than the primary motherboards this video card was tested on. #2 Please make sure the monitor drivers are loaded. There is a possibility that the monitor will not show resolutions that it cannot perform. When installing a new video card it is always good to re-install the monitor drivers again even if they were installed before. |

Posted: Apr 10, 2003 08:30:49 Thanks. I can't try the card in another motherboard, this is all I've got to work with. I'll try installing the monitor drivers again. Should I be doing this before or after I install the card? (Because I have a very difficult time seeing the screen after the card's in.) It's not the resolution unless the card doesn't use standard resolutions (600x800 for example--which is what it looks like when it boots). |

Posted: Apr 10, 2003 10:40:42 Hi, I would try installing the monitor driver first. I would also try setting the resolution to a minimum standard like 640x480x16. The static will sometimes occur if the refresh rate is not supported by your monitor. |

Posted: Apr 10, 2003 22:06:14 Thanks for your help. I'm afraid I found out what the problem is: The card is incompatible with my motherboard. Ah well, next time I'll know to check that sort of thing out before I buy. Thanks again for your help. :) |

Posted: Sep 10, 2003 22:08:17 Please try the video card on a different motherboard. If it works on a different motherboard, the video card is not compatible with your Matsonic. |

Posted: Dec 11, 2003 14:32:41 Ok, I am having a problem with my S3 Savage 2000 video driver.... without it my scroll bar does not move the page properly and chops when going down and when trying to watch movies on my computer the screen was all pixelated.. so I noticed I didn't have a video driver and went and got one.... now I've downloaded 3 of my driver (s3 2000) just to make sure what was happening wasnt just the ONE I had gotten... well... now when I click on an icon on my desktop or just surf the internet all of my text seems to jumble together as i scroll down the page... like theres a chopping problem or something... I dont quite understand what it is. The only way I can read things is to highlight them, and when i un-highlight them they return to their original "chopped/jumbled" state.... I cant figure out whats wrong with it for the life of me... ive checked my web encoding and thats right (as far as i know) and i cant think of anything else that would be making it do it..... its SOOOOOOOO aggrivating! Can someone please help me??? Pleeease p.s. I had just reformated my computer before I installed this driver, So as far as I know there are no confliction problems? Also running XP Pro on a 1250mhz athlon, thanks for any and all help |

Posted: Dec 11, 2003 14:39:26 This card is known to be incompatible with some motherboards. This may be possible with your system. We receive more returns on the S3 video cards than other ones like Nvidia or ATI. You do get what you pay for (in this case). |

Posted: Dec 11, 2003 14:49:40 ahhhhhhh, i found out what the problem was... My computer had been set to 32bit color.... so I set it to 16bit color and now the text doesnt chop (wheres my 24 bit and less colors? i dont have options for them) Anyhow, Is this a problem most likely with the video driver itself or the crappiness of my motherboard (i dont know if savage is a good brand or not..... my guess is no?) thats making it all whack out like that...? Thanks again |

Posted: Dec 11, 2003 15:05:48 If you have 64MB version, the card is able to handle 32-bit colors, its possible your screen is a resolution the video card does not support. But yes, in general, the S3 video cards do not perform well in terms of frame rate or system compatibility. If you purchase S3 video cards, you should purchase knowing some of the disadvantages. |
