Hi, I've been working with a third-party vendor to set up my own mySQL database to compensate for the SOLD V that has been broken since June 13, 2006. So far, I have only one person/company interested in utilizing the alternative setup. Is there anyone else interested?

The setup requires setting up your own mySQL database, a mySQL ODBC driver on your workstation, and using Microsoft Access to run a query. I know it sounds like a bit much. But if there is enough interest, I can write up a step-by-step document with screenshots and make it available as a PDF file.

The good thing is that the document will be free, but there's a lot of steps involved. I'm not a programmer, so I'm sorry I can't write a program that'll do it all for you. :)

Anyway, please post here so I can gauge interest.

I'm interested in it. Ever since you initially posted about it, I've been hoping you would post more info on how you got it to work.

Sun,
I'm not particularly interested because I just put my Paypal fees in manually.

However, I wanted to let you know how much I appreciate the offer and how much I appreciate you having this forum.

Thanks again for everything,
Bill

Hello everyone - I have a rough draft of the Paypal IPN to SOLD V instructions ready.

Download it here: http://tekgems.com/dl/paypal2soldv.zip

Took me about 2 1/2 hours, so it is not extremely detailed.

I would like feedback on the following:

1) what your technical level is
2) what changes in the instructions would have made the installation easier for you.
3) if the installation was unsuccessful, where did you give up?

Hi Sun. Dave here. I took a look at you instructions and I'm already stumped on the first step. Am I already supposed to know how to create a mySQL data base on my
site before starting anything? .. or am I missing something?

Cheers,
Dave

Hi Dave - there is an excellent web software called myPHPadmin that will let you work with mySQL easily. If you web site is Linux based, most web hosts have it as a standard script you can install.

I worked on this with unitedhbn (Dave) for about 6 hours total to get all the bugs worked out. It seems 1&1.com and Yahoo (geocities.com) does not have a mySQL setup that allows for automatic downloading. We figured out another way, but it does involve more steps which is not ideal.

I would say, in order for you to do this yourself, you need Intermediate to Advanced technical skills.

Or I could help you if you have XP Professional with Remote Desktop, or if you use a service like GoToMyPc.com or LogMeIn.com where I could access your computer remotely.

I've been reviewing other options and it seems that AuctionSage may be a good choice. It has Paypal integration, which is one of the features I've been looking for. It appears that it's supported well. They are rewriting it for the ebay api and have a beta version of that available.

These are things that attracted me to Sold years ago. Too bad Bill is awol.
