Posted: Sep 14, 2004 17:38:58 Hello, I just purchased the Packard Bell IR receiver and remote for an old (Gateway 9150 solo) laptop that I'm using as a media server pc. After a few hours of the receiver not picking up any signals, I tried hooking up the unit to my desktop and got green lights immediately, so it appears as though my laptop is one of those that has incompatible voltage on its serial port (I investigated possible IRQ conflicts, etc.). So, is there anything I can do to remedy the situation, or am I screwed? |

Some may suggest USB to Serial devices but those devices do not support all the features of a real serial port. So, your best bet would be to purchase a PC Remote Control that is usb based. For example, the Digital Keyspan Remote is a good one. Typically you find them for $25 plus shipping. |
