Posted: Oct 19, 2003 14:59:34 Hi, you will need a serial port to make the Creative Remote work. |
Posted: Oct 20, 2003 03:23:20 There are USB-Com-Port adapters... But i don't know if it works with the creative remote. |

Posted: Oct 20, 2003 10:40:25 Hi tariq1st, here is a related thread on USB to serial port converters: http://tekgems.com/forum/forum1-158.htm We have not tested specifically on the Creative Remote, so your results may be different. |

Posted: Oct 28, 2003 18:14:42 Hi Am having the same issues here with lack of serial port on my laptop. My docking station has one, so I do have a workaround. Regardless, for my creative remote, is there any way I can convert a usb/lpt port to recognise the remote. I have read the thread on USB to serial port converters - following on from that, has any testing been done on that yet? |

Posted: Oct 29, 2003 23:26:47 Hi, the Creative Remote (cimr100) does not support Winamp 3 since this product was built before Winamp 3 was released. |

Posted: Oct 29, 2003 23:29:05 Any patches in the works or do i have to returrn it? |
Posted: Oct 30, 2003 00:15:00 You can use the Creative Remote with WinLIRC if you want to control other applications like Winamp 3. You can have WinLIRC "learn" the signals from the Creative Remote. |

Posted: Dec 3, 2003 13:56:55 Hi, is laptop port irDA? The creative remote is compatible with serial port infrared, not irDA built into most laptops. |
Posted: Dec 3, 2003 13:58:53 so i cant use the remote with irDA? am kinda new to IR... i know some electronics |
Posted: Dec 3, 2003 14:03:36 Yes, that is correct - irDA is not compatible with the Creative Labs Remote Control (cimr100). |
Posted: Dec 3, 2003 14:35:08 so what do i need to do to use the remote? build a resiver? |
Posted: Dec 3, 2003 15:01:05 I suggest buying the set which comes with remote control, infrared receiver, and software to drive the whole thing: http://tekgems.com/Products/creative-multimedia-remote-cimr100.htm |
Posted: Dec 4, 2003 07:03:18 is there a smaller version of the reciver? and if a build my own reciver whold it be the same as the sold one? allso is that a remote you reccomend? or are the other kinds better? |
Posted: Dec 4, 2003 09:28:49 > is there a smaller version of the reciver? We sell the Packard Bell FastMedia Remote and Receiver which has a smaller infrared receiver. > whold it be the same as the sold one? You'd have to buy one first and open it up. |

Posted: Dec 4, 2003 12:17:13 ok thenx alot i just got a USB irDA can that work? allso is there a remote that will work with irDA or is irDA only for very short range? |
Posted: Dec 4, 2003 12:44:35 irDA is for very short range. Infrared is better because of longer range. If you want even longer range, you will need to use RF (radio frequency). |

Posted: Dec 5, 2003 03:57:40 so what remote whold you reccomend for me? i have a compaq presario 900 laptop and i want control over laptop and i allso like stuff like mouse control on the creative remote thow am sure its avalable on other remotes as well... allso is there A good PCI sound card that comes with a remote control? i sow creative got some USB2 cards for that but i dont have USB2 and allso am not willing to spend 100$ on a sound card |
Posted: Dec 5, 2003 08:03:33 > good PCI sound card w/ remote < $100? That's going to be tough. > mouse control Free infrared programs like Girder will emulate mouse control. |

Posted: Dec 14, 2005 22:51:51 hi tekgems, your answers answered a lot of my queries. now i understand that laptop IR wont work with creative infrared remote. I've seen some shops selling remote which can be used with most of laptop IR ports. So it gives me the confidence that even creative remote can work with them. I'll try and find some workaround and will surely update everyone here if i get successful at it. Regards, Mohsin |
