Posted: Sep 6, 2003 11:24:23 I just recieved the remote today, and have been having trouble getting it to work. I installed the WinLIRC software and followed the instructions, yet the gray dot will not turn green when I press it. I have attempted to use different COM ports, yet the result is the same. When using SerialWatcher under Com2, the program recieves information when I press buttons on the remote, yet when I'm in WinLIRC nothing happens (as far as a green light flashing up). I'm using Windows XP Pro, if that helps. Thank you! -Mike |

Posted: Sep 6, 2003 14:23:08 Hi Mike, thanks for testing the remote. You want to make sure you are out of SerialWatcher when you are using WinLIRC. Do you get a signal from SerialWatcher when using COM1? That's very strange that SerialWatcher is receiving a signal which indicates the hardware and serial port is okay, but WinLIRC is not. |

Posted: Sep 6, 2003 16:32:14 Thanks for the fast answer! I am only recieving a signal from SerialWatcher using Com2, not Com1 (or any other one for that matter). And yes, I do exit out of serialwatcher when attemping to use WinLIRC. |

Posted: Sep 6, 2003 17:41:45 Hi, COM2 should work then. Perhaps there was a step you missed during the installation or configuration. For Winamp 2, the instructions are here: http://tekgems.com/Products/WinampRemote/InstallWinLIRC-WinAmp2.htm For Winamp 3, the instructions are here: http://tekgems.com/Products/WinampRemote/InstallWinLIRC-WinAmp3.htm The instructions is almost one year old so they do need some updating. But try there along with the troubleshooting tips. It is also possible the remote and/or receiver may be defective. Please e-mail me privately and we can arrange to have a tested remote and receiver set sent out to you. Thanks. |

Posted: Oct 14, 2003 09:18:31 HI, I have a similiar problem. I can see signal from COM1 via SerialWatcher but WinLirc can't read from COM1. Any idea? - Anthony |

Posted: Dec 27, 2003 20:56:43 My Packard Bell remote has pretty much the same problem. It's connected on COM2 (my palm's cradle is on 1) and nothing else is using coms. Serial watch sees incoming data on com2 when I push a remote button, but WinLIRC doesn't at all (no turning green). There were no missed steps or anything of the sort in my installation. Being a technical sort, I decided to try to do some troubleshooting on my own before bugging you. By making a new configuration and setting the reciever type to DCD from RX, I was able to get some signal using Raw Codes (which is more than I could get out of RX). However the system still can't read the codes, probably because the codes the remote is sending are VERY inconsistant. So I decided to use the new config to try to re-learn. Unlike RX mode, this time it actually notices a button press, but it keeps getting too many inconsistancy errors to learn, even given a 99% error rate. |

Posted: Dec 28, 2003 04:19:51 I installed uICE (Universal Infra Red Control Engine) and it works fine under that, so if anyone else has problems, check that program out. |

Posted: Jan 2, 2004 14:50:21 I have similar problem to the previous writers. Serialwatcher detects ir signals on com 4, but no signal through winlirc. I use a serial to usb adaptor as i don't have serial port on the computer. |

Posted: Jan 2, 2004 21:08:15 Serial to USB will not work with this remote. The Serial to USB adapters do not support the serial port interrupts which is required for this device. Your only real option is to use a USB based remote control, like the Digital Keyspan Remote. We carry these as well. |

Posted: Mar 22, 2004 17:10:21 I have the same problem, that I am using a USB Serial adapter. Can I exchange my product for the Digital Keyspan Remote? |
Posted: Mar 22, 2004 17:13:55 You can return the item and pay the difference for the Digital Keyspan Remote yes. But a straight exchange would not be possible. |

Posted: Mar 22, 2004 17:30:15 Is the Digital Keyspan Remote compatible with Winamp3? |
Posted: Mar 22, 2004 17:45:46 Can you post a link to the Keyspan remote page? I can't seem to find it on the site. |

Posted: Mar 22, 2004 18:14:50 http://www.keyspan.com/products/usb/remote/ You can map keystrokes to a button. Please contact us privately if you want to trade in your packard bell remote for a digital keyspan remote. |

Posted: Apr 19, 2004 13:34:27 Hi, I got my remote working with Winamp, but the consistency of getting it working properly with winamp is 1/3 each time I press the button. Is there some way to increase the accuracy? It gets really frustrating when I press the volumn button 3 times only to get it move once. |

Posted: Apr 19, 2004 13:41:54 You can have WinLIRC re-learn the infrared signals from your remote. |
Posted: Apr 22, 2004 04:30:17 One of the problems can be that your PC is working to much on running winamp to also react to each IR command. One way to solve this is to use Girder with the Igor plugin, in this plugin you can give the remote more priority to react on the IR commands. Works like a charm for me. |
