The IBM 08L3170 dongle is used to connect 56k PC Cards to a phone line. This will not work with cards that are exclusively for LAN (DSL, Cable, etc). Two LEDs will indicate "Carrier Detect" and "Transmit/Receive". The cable will work the following PC Cards:

  • IBM EtherJet Cardbus Adapter w/ 56K modem 08L3167 / 08L3837 / 08L3638
  • Xircom Cardbus 10/100 Ethernet + 56 Modem CBEM56G-100, CBEM56G-100BTX

    Note: Other compatible part numbers are XIRCOM CABLE-MOD444. Xircom model MOD 444 has a red bar with the word "Xircom" written on it. This is a Xircom's modem cable for the CardBus Ethernet 10/100+Modem 56 (CBEM56G) PC Card. The cable allows you to connect this modem card to the cellular phone (supported phones are Motorola StarTAC 8600, 8500, 6500 and 6000). Replacement Xircom PCMCIA Modem dongle with RJ-11 jack.
