I have a mac computer running 10.4.11 operating system. Can I import old records into itunes?

Yes. The song can be saved as CD or MP3 with the recording software. In iTunes, you would add the song or folder containing the new songs. You would have to add the artists, album, and song title by hand since you are creating a unique rip as opposed to ripping a mass produced CD. When recording songs, getting it to a digital format as soon as possible is best. Since the turntable is recording directly to a digital file, deviation from the source is minimal.

This looks like a Numark turntable. Are they the same "mechanically"?

Sorry, we have not tested a Numark unit to compare.

I want to connect to a laptop (MacBook Pro or Toshiba running Vista) what do I need to physically connect the turntable to the computer?
TekGems :

Hi, please use the USB to connect the turntable to your laptop.

I'm not a fan of compressed files. Can I save these in a larger format such as wav. files?
TekGems :
Posted 705 days ago
Yes, the raw audio can be saved as WAV if you want. I would suggest compressing down to FLAC so you still have lossless audio and save disk space at the same time.

I have an ibook G4 with itunes. I've copied my cd collection on to an external LACIE hard drive and would like to add my vinyl as well. Can I go from vinyl to ibook to LACIE?

Some customers have expressed frustration with the Mac software that is included with the product. CD Spin Doctor from the famed Toast software for Mac is highly recommended.

Product does not include a dust cover.

Hi Dawn - Yes, you can add your vinyl to iTunes as well. Once the turntable converts the vinyl to a digital format, you import those files into iTunes. During the import process, iTunes will ask you if you want to compress it at which time iTunes will convert the big digital files to smaller MP3 or AAC audio files.

How does the old 78's sound after converting? Concerned about the quality of the sound. Have lots of old 78's that I want to convert. I am really new about doing this stuff. What is LACIE? Why import to itunes?

Hi Dorothy - As I understand it - you should not play back 78s on a needle designed to play 33 or 45. You need to buy a needle specifically designed for 78 RPM play. Since the ION turntables can only play back at 33 or 45, you can record 78 RPM vinyl then use the software to adjust the 33/45 play to 78 RPM sound. Sound is subjective, but it'll sound fine.

Thank you so much for your response. These 78's mean so much to me. They were my Daddy's, who passed away 55 years ago yesterday when I was very young. Merry Christmas...

I am interested in the Ion Turntable for converting 33 1/3, 78 and 45 recordings to digital CDs. How does the quality of this unit compare with the Brookstone unit that accomplishes the same thing, but at a lower cost?

Have ION Portable (does not specify which generation) with plastic needle - it skips every so slighlty playing album - 331/3. Any suggestions? Also need to find where I can get 78rpm needle. Thanks.
