I want to hook it up to a solar cell power supply with a back up battery and need to size the solar cells and the battery. It appears that the unit needs 12 volts DC, but I do not konw what the real power requirement is. Based on the available power information, it appears that 5 watts will be large enough, but I need to know how low I can go. If I try to use 5 watts as the power supply requirement, I quickly end up with about a 30 watt solar panel in order that I meet battery recharge requirements. Can you help here? John Humphrey : Posted 224 days ago Note the AC input is 20 to 48 watts but the DC output of the power supply is 6 watts, so don't try to connect with an inverter. Stay DC. To size your PV array you will want to base that on you local weather info, but a good rule of thumb is to design to accomodate 3 days without sunlight in the winter. In california we typically assume about 5 hours of sunlight average per day but that is a yearly average so the winter numbers are much lower...
