Would this enchance a signal or is only for wireless access. I like to work of the patio and have only a min, reception

This is just a wireless adapter for your laptop. Depending on what type of wireless adapter you have for your laptop, this adapter could provide better reception. Netgear also makes a wireless expander (booster) that plugs into your AC jack and repeats wireless signals from the access point you piggyback it to.
