Install WinLIRC for Packard Bell FastMedia Remote
WinLIRC 0.64 and WinAmp plugin, the software to drive the Packard Bell Infrared Remote and Receiver, is written by Jim Paris. Please visit the WinLIRC site for specific information about this program.
A specially configured version of WinLIRC with the WinAmp plugin is available at <http://tekgems.com/dl/infrared/WinLIRC_WinAmpPlugin.zip> if do not have it already.
System requirements:
Packard Bell FastMedia Remote
the accompanying Infrared Receiver
two fresh 'AA' batteries
Winamp 2.xx (2.76 download here) installed on your PC
Directions
1. Extract all files in this zip file
2. Plug in the infrared receiver into an available serial port
either COM1 or COM2
3. Open WINLIRC.EXE

4. Ignore the error and click OK
5. Now, select the PORT, either COM1 or COM2
6. Select your SENSE as Autodetect
7. In the Config line, Click Browse... to select one of the CFG files.
For Packard Bell Remotes, it is packard_bell.cfg
For the Credit Card Remotes, it is psxamp.cfg
At this point, you should see a grey circle in your system tray.
8. Put two fresh 'AA' batteries into the remote control.
9. Point your remote toward the infrared receiver and push some buttons. FYI, the Packard Bell Remote does not have blinking lights.
If the grey circle in the system tray turns green, continue to Step 10.
If it stays grey, try selecting another COM port. For example, if you selected COM1 try COM2, or vice versa. If none of the COM ports work, you may have an IRQ conflict that may need to be resolved first. Jump to the troubleshooting
section below for additional help.
Installing WinAmp Plugin
10. If you do not have WinAmp 2.xx installed on your computer, please download WinAmp here install it now.
11. Now, copy the GEN_IR.DLL file into WinAmp Plugins
directory. This is typically C:\PROGRAM FILES\WINAMP\PLUGINS

12. Click on General Purpose under the Plug-Ins branch
13. Select WinLIRC Plugin 0.3 and click Configure
If the plug-in says, "Not Loaded", please close WinAmp and open it again.

14. Click Add and you will see a "Button Assignment" menu.
We suggest the Button ID be the label on your remote buttons. They are:
Help, Phone, Message, SRS, CD, Aux1, Aux2, Aux3, LMB, RMB, Up, Down, Left, Right, Menu, Mute, Enter, CHUp, CHDown, VolUp, VolDown, Display, One, Two, Three, Four, Five, Six, Seven, Eight, Nine, Zero, Star, and Hash.
Map an "action" to each button ID.
