3C597-TX – Description This is the Fast EtherLink 10/100Mbps EISA Network Interface Card for your 10BASE-T or 10BASE-TX network from 3Com. This dual speed card is the logical choice for those who want 10MBPS performance now and the ability to easily migrate to 100MBPS in the future. With its auto-sensing ability, the card automatically senses what speed your hub is running at and configures itself accordingly. When it is time to upgrade, there is no reconfiguring of the hardware or software necessary, just connect your adapter cable to the 100BASE-TX port on your hub and you are ready to go. Initial installation is a snap with the included AutoLink software, allowing you to get started in a one-step procedure. Also included is the EtherDisk software, which contains drivers for most of the popular operating systems. Combine all this with 3Com's Parallel Tasking Architecture and a lifetime 3Com warranty, and you have a powerful network card that has the flexibility to carry you into the future of high-speed networking. The Parallel Tasking Architecture of this card allows it to overlap processing tasks to speed data transmission and reception. The adapter will begin writing the first portion of data frame onto the wire before it has completed reading it from PC memory instead of waiting for the entire data frame to be read, before writing it to the wire. This can effectively increase throughput by up to 133% over conventional second generation adapters. The card has 3 LEDs allow you to visually confirm basic information on the status of the card. The first LED is marked '10 LNK' and glows green to indicate operation in 10Mbps mode and link integrity to a 10BASE-T hub. The next is the '100 LNK' LED and glows green in 100Mbps mode with link integrity of a 100BASE-TX hub. The final LED is marked 'ACT' and glows yellow when there is link activity in either mode.
